One of Bournemouth's hidden gems. With pool tables, full table service, a variety of tasty American bar snacks and, of course, regular sport screenings, Sharkeys is a real diamond in the rough.

The Venue
Sharkeys is tucked away above the Litten Tree with access on Old Christchurch Road. The club's discreet nature makes it all the more appealing as it’s often free of the rabble of stag dos and large groups which can hinder a quiet beer and a good game of pool.

The club itself is fully carpeted with a well stocked bar and 11 brilliantly maintained large pool tables that only enhance the all-American feel of the pool hall. They also show every major sporting event on large plasma screens dotted around the place and it gets packed during major matches.

The People
Sharkeys is a haven for students and office workers who are looking for an authentic pool hall without the dirty floors and bar fights. With the offer of cheap pool for students it's definitely a hot spot for those searching for some respite between lectures.

That’s not to say however that it’s a student club. It's very popular with those looking for something a little different for after work drinks and it draws in large crowds for football matches as it offers a more relaxed environment than the average pub.

The lack of membership requirement in Sharkeys makes it open to everyone, creating a vibe which welcomes anyone looking for sports, beers and food.

The Food
The food in Sharkeys really adds to the full experience of an authentic pool hall, with a variety of favourites from 6oz cheese burger with chips and onion rings for £5.70 (including a drink) to chicken kebabs and real American jumbo hotdogs and all for under £4!

And for those not wanting to indulge in a full meal there are supremely tasty bar snacks, including supreme 'stadium' potato skins stuffed with bacon, cheese, onion and sour creme and nachos fully topped with cheese, salsa and peppers - the perfect accompaniment to a game of pool with friends.

The Drink
Being a Bowlplex bar, the choice of alcohol is fairly limited. However, it does have a number of largers and cider on draught, along with well stocked fridges featuring some old favourites such as Old Speckled Hen, Budweiser, Gamers and, of course, the student favourite VK.

Prices range from £2.65 for a pint of larger to £8 for a four-pint jug, the bottles are a little more expensive, but Bowlplex do offer five for £10 on many of the favourite alcopops such as VK and WKD.

The Last Word
One of the most underrated and best kept secrets Bournemouth has to offer. Sharkeys is a real treat for sports fans as it combines an all-American authentic pool hall vibe with excellent food and a relaxed atmosphere. This place is guaranteed to make even the most uptight of people reach for cue!
