With charming hospitality and an authentic Latin atmosphere, Salsa Latin Bar Restaurant is always a pleasure to visit, particularly for a special occasion or a group booking.

The Venue
The red and yellow facade of the building is very welcoming, particularly in summer. The patio area has decked flooring, a canopy awning and shrubs around the fenced edges.

This summery atmosphere is continued inside, with ceiling fans, Mexican hats and bamboo chairs. The sunny-coloured, uneven walls of the interior give it a sculpted, authentic feel.

The People
Staff are cheerful, obliging and very friendly. On arrival you’ll receive complimentary olives and warm smiles. Customers range from families to groups of young friends and the varied menu caters for all tastes, so it’s an idea place to come with a large group of people. On summer afternoons there are often several locals gathered on the terrace sharing tapas.

The Food
The menu has a wide range of Mediterranean and Mexican food, from chilli to pizza. Particularly delicious tapas include championes de la casa (very creamy mushrooms cooked with tomato and onion) and patatas a la brava (spicy potatoes in a tomato sauce).

Pizza, pasta and risotto dishes – reasonably priced at £6.95 to £9.95 – are as good as you’ll find in any Italian restaurant, and include dishes such as penne with salmon, arroz con verduras (vegetable risotto) and calzone (folded, stuffed pizza).

Other main courses include burritos, burgers, chimichangas, chilli, and salads, as well as a good range of meat, chicken and fish dishes. Food is fresh and portions are generous. Most main courses come with a salad and an offer of their delicious creamy dressing.

A dessert cabinet is stacked full of a tempting range of puddings, such as profiteroles, cheesecakes and gateaux.

The Drink
If you come to Salsa then their Sangria is a must. It’s £2.85 for a glass or £12.95 for a litre jug, and comes complete with all the fruit garnishes. There’s a good wine list which starts at £2.85 for a glass and £10.95 for a house bottle.

The Last Word
The food might not be gourmet but it’s delicious and there’s a wide range to choose from. The menu has something to suit most tastes and the atmosphere will leave you feeling like you’ve been on holiday. Well worth a visit.
