I went to a hen party this weekend 30/06/12 it was great. The service and food where A one. I would recommend this resturant. We had a room to ourselves as there were 19 of us, which was on 1st floor which we had reservation of food being delayed or cold but was the total opposite.
The staff were friend and helpful. Many thanks to them from amanda's & her hens.

Being half Chinese myself and being brought up on home cooked food. I would like to think that I know what good Chinese food is.

I and my family are very passionate about all food, especially dim sum.
Some of us have been to Hong Kong and we have all frequented many top dim sum restaurants in London and Birmingham, having lived there for many years.

The dim sum served here is better than most we have been to, even better than those in London china town. The dim sum here seams to be more fresh, even the mixed meat croquet are cooked to order! Dam tarts are made fresh on Sunday's.

Also, they have a traditional Chinese menu, aside from the dim sum and al a carte. And it is in this menu you will find real Chinese food that real Chinese people would eat at home or cook for themselves on special occasions such as the moon festival. (stewed beef and turnip hot pot)

The staff here are all so friendly and always make you feel like you are welcomed in to a home.
A couple have the stereotypical aloof style service, but for me that adds to the feel and character of this place. Plus it's a nice feat when you can manage to crack a smile from them. :)

I am proud to say that we come here at least once every week between the 7 of us, and I know we will continue to do so for as long as this Bournemouth gem is here.

As far as the "shark fin soup comment" is concerned, people from all corners of the world have different cultures.
The world would be a better place if people where a little more open minded and respectful of this.
We all have our own views and opinions which are perfectly fine to voice, but to try and boycott something for your own opinions is a little ignorant and small minded. Rant over.

P.S
Sunday dim sum is the best time to go.
As Sunday is traditional for us Chinese to go "yum char"!

Enjoy.

At last, we found a real Dim Sum restaurant!

My Chinese wife and I moved to the area earlier in 2011. We were initially very disappointed with the local Chinese restaurants and travelled further and further to try and find proper Dim Sum and Cantonese Roasts. I had missed the Ocean City as it is in the ground floor of a hotel.

The first time we walked into the Ocean City our spirits rose; friendly and welcoming staff, a pleasant restaurant and the sight and aromas of good Chinese food. Apparently they have trained Dim Sum & Chinese Roast Chefs which may explain the real Chinese feel to the food. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the offerings.
We have become regulars and have very rarely been 'disappointed' and then it's just one of the dishes. All our Chinese relatives speak well of their visits.
At busy times the parking at the front is limited but there is another 'off road' one to the side and more spaces further down the side road.

We have been going to this place for more than 5 years and we all love it! Last nite we went spontaneous and it was very satisfying. The staff is ALWAYS very kind and attentive, they always treat us like royalties plus they always remember the little antiques I have too or what dish we had on our last visit. The food I agree sometimes varies in taste and quality, but like all other places they have their ups and downs too, plus they have more then one chef which makes a the difference too. 9 out of 10 times the food is fab! If one ever is not fully satisfied and you let them know in a respectful manner, they will do everything and anything to fix it. We love going there during their off peak time which gives me time to catch up with staff and have chats about anything really. To me this place is the best place when I feel homesick, I am not Chinese, but their way the food and aura of this place I find very comforting. I would not be able to say anything about their boss, other than that he reminds me of those characters from old chinese movies:)) I don't remember him ever talking, maybe he is not comfy with the engl. language, but he always smiles and chats happily amongst his people. We love this place and we hope it will be there - FOREVER.xxxx Underwoods xxxx

Not at all impressed.
The food came on cold plates.
The food was only luke warm and we had to ask for it to be reheated twice.
The meat was thin and surrounded by too much veg.
Presentation very average.
No exciting tastes.
The portions were very small considering the cost. We left still hungry.
Desserts are too small and too expensive, all pre-packed and frozen.
If you want to be ripped off, go to Ocean City.
The only good thing about it is the nice atmosphere and the nice staff, but we won't bother going there again.

We have been promising ourselves a visit to the Ocean City for a long time. At last we made it and we were not disappointed. It was wonderful, the staff were very nice and helpful and the food was absolutely top class (try the crispy roast pork).

We enjoyed our visit so much we have made another booking for the night of our 35th wedding anniversary and it is the central point for our stay and celebration in Bournemouth for the occassion.

We certainly will be returning again and again.

My family and I have eaten at the Ocean City on a number of occasion's now. My 8 year old son loves to go here and the staff are extremely child friendly. Dim Sum on a Sunday is a big Chinese event and the food is excellent. I have eaten in many top Chinese restaurants and I can say the cuisine in the restaurant ranks along side the very best. I would highly recommend eating here to anyone.

Excellent authentic Chinese food in the south coast and not the typical patronising chinese food (i.e. sweet sour pork) served for western palette.

I was going to visit this restaurant for my birthday until i discovered that they sell Shark Fin soup.

Shark finning is a barbaric practice in which sharks have their fins sliced off whilst they are still alive and are then thrown back into the sea to drown or be eaten. As well as being incredibly cruel finning is also extremely wasteful as only the fins are taken. This allows boats to kill huge numbers of sharks but all of the fish apart from the fins is wasted. Shark populations are at the verge of collapse any many species may become extinct.

Please boycott this restaurant and don't forget to tell them why. Hopefully they will then remove shark fin soup from their menu
