Inferno is the place to go for a student social scene, with the university and halls of residence within walking distance, this pub has pandered well to the students’ needs.

The Venue
Inferno is part of the It's A Scream chain, one of the Mitchell and Butler's outlets which is aimed at the student market.

It's a large bar spread over two floors, with high ceilings and plenty of tables for groups of students to hang out, as well as a reasonably sized outside area.

Sticking to the colours that a blazing inferno would conjure up, red, brown and orange tones are used for the walls and furniture, creating a warm cosy environment.

The furniture is a mix of old and new, with old-fashioned leather sofas, battered wooden tables but chic stencilled lampshades that add a dash of quirkiness.

The stencilled fleur de lis on the walls seems relatively random, but as it’s a laidback bar no one pays that much attention to detail.

The People
The crowd is 90 per cent students, with a few older locals milling around as well, but they seem rather out of place.

The youthful energetic vibe is infectious and everyone, including the staff, is friendly and up for a laugh.

Familiar faces are regularly seen with most students recognising each other, but lots of new friends are made here with lively banter at the bar sparking up conversation.

A few suits come in from time to time, maybe to recapture their student days, and they’re welcomed with some humour.

The Food and Drink
As it's a Scream bar the food is typically aimed at the student market, so they have a wide range of hunger satifisers such as burgers, ciabattas, jacket potatoes and dishes to share. Prices are cheap, as you'd expect.

If you’re a hardcore proper beer and ale fan, then Inferno will let you down. However, for £1 a pint on Mondays, and not much more the rest of the week, you can’t argue with the prices.

Stella, Carling, Staropramen, Corona and Fosters are around £2 to £3 a pint, with a pitcher of Carling available at £7.75 to get the crowd into a party mood. Wine and spirit choices are limited but cheap which the student clientele appreciates wholeheartedly.

The Last Word
Inferno is a reliable bar for students to hang out and have a few drinks without spending too much of their loan.
