When we entered this pub (Tues) it was virtually empty, not a good sign, we bought drinks and ordered meals for the two of us. To start… 1 – minestrone soup & 1 garlic mushrooms. The garlic mushrooms ok, the soup ok, but the bread that came with it was like rock/rubber, had a job to even break it to smaller pieces. Told the waiter about the bread when he colleted the plates, from his attitude, not really bothered.
When the mains arrived, one steak/mushroom pie and mixed veg, the vegetables nearly cold and the meat like leather and didn’t see any mushrooms. The other main meal was pork with mixed veg and roast potatoes, again the vegetables nearly cold and tasted as if they had been re-heated. Also the broccoli was turning brown and most of this meal was left due to this.
When telling the waiter yet again about this all he could say was “no worries” and duly removed the plates etc. He asked if we would like a desert, after that lot he has to be joking.
For this Inc the two drinks, one-pint shandy and one orange juice the charge was £23.95.
Would not go for food at this place again….a beer yes.

August 2011 : This pub has recently changed hands to the owners of the Corfe Castle arms pub. The food is marvellous and really tasty. We went on the fish night for our anniversary i had swanage lobster for £14.00 it was so delicious and the service was really friendly, the atmosphere relaxing. Also my children went on Bank Holiday Monday and got a free bouncy castle and free sausage and chips and had a wonderful time. There is a big mown beer garden. If you like good food and a really nice countryside pub this is for you :-).

Lovely building now its been cleaned and painted inside, but for goodness sake turn up the heating. Awful land-lady detracts from what could be a nice country pub. No real atmosphere there.

I recently went to this pub for a meal on a week night. I found the landlady particularly unfriendly because i am not a local. Equally, i was not inspired by the menu, nor by the food which came out very slowly despite it being a quiet week night. There was a lack of atmosphere and the room was cold. It's a lovely pub with great potential, perhaps what it needs is new management.

I am not sure that the person that wrote the previous review is thinking of the same Chequers Inn as I am! We always receive a very warm welcome, the menu has some great choices, from breaded mushrooms to scallops on the starters or hand carved ham & eggs to slow braised lamb shank or my favourite the delicious pork two ways. I believe they employ a pastry chef to make all of there amazing desserts. We have always received our food within a very reasonable time considering its not the usual ping & ding pub food!
