A boozy pub that attracts a lot of lads on the lash, but there’s a friendly vibe nonetheless.

The Venue
In a street that's saturated with pubs and bars, The Litten Tree is pretty unremarkable. It's stuck to a clean and simple decor that's contemporary and casual.

Polished wood floors, cream walls and brown tables and chairs tick all the ordinary boxes so far, and the seating is spread out giving customers a feeling of space to allow them to relax.

There are plenty of TV screens around the place, showing sports if they possibly can, and a lot of the male faces in the crowd seem to be fixed towards them, leaving any women accompanying them either joining in or staring into space.

The large old-fashioned light fixtures add a touch of traditional class to the place but, somehow, although the colour scheme is sophisticated and the appearance is smooth, it still feels like a very basic local pub.

The People
The crowd at the Litten Tree is made up of mostly blokes having a laugh with each other and enjoying the macho atmosphere. There are of course a few ladies, but they never look like they’re having a particularly good time.

On sports nights, this laddish bunch of regulars create an electric atmosphere and, after a few beers, some exciting penalties and loud 'discussions' about substitutions, the air is heavy with testosterone.

On quiz nights there can be a friendly feel, too, with lots of banter and camaraderie. However, on some nights, it just so happens that a group of lads get just a little too boozed up which can make the pub suddenly seem crass and dull.

The student nights on Thursdays and late night weekend nights are usually lively and interesting, with cheesy commercial music and a young crowd that you’ll either love or hate.

The Food
They've just introduced a new menu which has a range of healthy options such as salads, wraps, chicken and mushroom risotto and baguettes.

For £4.75 you can get a meal and a drink or for £6.95 you can two meals from a range of options. They also serve breakfast which also has a deal - for £3.95 you can get a meal and a drink. They also do a Sunday roast.

The Drink
The drinks are relatively cheap but unexciting at The Litten Tree. Fosters, Strongbow, Carling et al are around £3 a pint, and real ales including Bombadier and Old Speckled Hen.

Wine is mostly New World and inexpensive at £8.95 to £13.95 but the standard isn’t very high. There are even a few simple cocktails that just about have more than two ingredients for £8.95 a jug for a more sociable drink.

The Last Word
If you’re out on a night with the lads, or looking for some that are already quite tipsy, then the Litten Tree is a good place to go.
