This quirky bar is a haven for those who love music in all its form - whether it be indie or hard house. Sixty Million Postcards also serves amazing cocktails and food that would keep any globe-trotting foodie happy.

The Venue
As well as being an uber chic lounge bar and restaurant during the day, Sixty Million Postcards is also a venue for alternative music at night. The decor is the epitome of cool and modern with just the right amount of alternative bite to add some edge.

The large space has been used well, with some huge seating areas for cool kids to lounge about on, complete with comfy dark sofas and a long bar to cater to the big crowds.

Behind the bar is a massive noticeboard covered with random postcards from all over the place – it’s not clear if there really are 60 million (hmmm, extremely unlikely) but the look and concept still works.

The interior is a combination of contrasts - there are pretty lampshades and rough exposed brickwork, and pale woods are surrounded by dark moody tones such as black, taupe and burgundy.

An eclectic mix of wallpapers cover the walls to add some more colour, and a mixture of antique and modern light fixtures and ornaments add the final touches.

The People
During the day anyone and everyone is welcome here. Grown-up drinkers are attracted by the cool cocktails and outdoor area, while Bournemouth students love the effortlessly cool bar scene and enjoy the random mix of people.

The chilled vibe is constant at daytime, but in the evening the place livens up with youthful bodies desperate to dance and have a good time. When the sun goes down expect a party vibe.

As well as live bands and DJs, Sixty Million Postcards also hosts pub quizzes, jumble sales (yes, really) and art events and exhibitions.

The Music
Showcasing the latest talent in the Bournemouth music scene, Sixty Million Postcards has everything from indie bands to hardcore house DJs. The legendary Dirty Soul nights are resident here and blast out a heady concoction of R'n'B, indie, hip-hop, funk, electro and a dash of retro grooves to get everybody dancing.

There’s pretty much a night for every different taste in music, with a few special nights when it’s a bit of everything for those who just want to have fun and can’t quite decide what type of music they feel like letting their hair down to.

The Food
Mixing English pub favourites with Mexican, Mediterranean and student-inspired snacks, it seems Sixty Million Postcards created the menu exclusively for gap year undergraduates.

So, as well as nachos (£4.50), you can get a cottage pie (£5.90), a Morroccan chicken salad with pine kernels and avocado (£6.90), a fish-finger sandwich, handmade burgers like the lamb burger with minted goats cheese (£6.50) and pies. Desserts include Belgian waffles with maple syrup (£3.60) and sticky toffee pudding.

The Drink
The wine list has a global range with lots of detail to aid your decision. Prices waver between £10 and £17 a bottle.

For something a little different try their tasty cocktails for £6. Classic combinations of vodka, gin, bourbon and rum are all on the list, using quality ingredients to maximise the sweet or sour flavours.

The bottled beers available are Amstel, Budweiser, Peroni and Becks to name a few, which go for about £3 a pop.

The Last Word
For different types of music every night, with a cool crowd and dependably decent drinks, make sure you head to Sixty Million Postcards.
