The ViewBournemouth Review
A bar, club and restaurant all rolled into one, with a modern vibe and a youthful energy that makes DNA anything but boring.
The Venue
Supposedly DNA is a Caribbean-style bar, which is hardly evident except in the Caribbean lunchtime buffet (for only £4.95).
It's separated into three areas: a dining area, a bar area and a space for dancing for when the drinks have been drunk and the night goes on.
The decor is contemporary and sleek, with a sophisticated monochrome palette and a few flashes of coloured light. The light fixtures add a quirky edge, as do the large mother of pearl discs which hang from the ceiling.
The furniture is comfortable and chic, with simple dark polished wood, and suede and leather booths to seat large groups or just a couple of friends.
The People
The youthful energy of DNA is what keeps this club bar going. The crowd is young, attractive and up for a good time. Everyone is dressed stylishly, and there’s a good range of twentysomethings who have a friendly air about them, while staying trendy and elegant.
The place isn’t too posh so people feel free to let their hair down, and the mood changes from the day when it's more chilled out, to the evening when the crowd starts getting lively and fun.
The Music
You should check what’s playing at DNA before you go, as on different nights of the week the type of music varies drastically. On Sundays, to fit in with the mellow mood that settles at the end of the weekend, they play smooth jazz to chill you out before the working week begins.
Throughout the week they play a real mix of music, from the latest garage and house to old-school classics. There's also global music, electro nights, easy-going commercial dance and R'n'B. If there isn’t something you like in that mix, then you’ll find it difficult to go clubbing in Bournemouth.
The Drink
To fit in with the lounge bar feel, cocktails are a must at DNA, plus there’s an amazing deal of buy one cocktail get another for only £1 every night until 9pm and all night on Wednesdays.
The cocktail list is extensive and impressive with pretty much every cocktail covered using premium spirits and good ingredients for £7.95, or without premium spirits for £5.95.
Shooters are available for £3 to get the party going, plus the large selection of spirits (including a wide range of Caribbean rums) ensure that even the pickiest drinker will find their favourite tipple. Wines are limited but affordable at £9.95 to £14.95 a bottle.
The Last Word
DNA is a popular, vibrant bar that’s great for a quick drink or an all-nighter, ensuring the cool kids of Bournemouth have somewhere to go.
