A decent quality bar/restaurant that works as a cafe all day and a restaurant in the evening. Popular with locals looking for a casual meal, this place serves average British food in a modern atmosphere.

The Venue
Just a stone’s throw away from the busy pedestrian shopping district, Twenty is a stop off for many hungry shoppers who crave a proper sit down meal without the fuss. The decor is low-key but has the right balance of class.

The palette is neutral with cream and taupe walls and a warm wood bar. Bright flowers and plants add just a dash of colour to create a modest look. The furniture is simple, and its polished woods and practical black chairs are comfy yet sleek.

The People
The customers at Twenty are mostly groups of girlfriends of all ages looking for a nice place for lunch after a long day shopping.

There is chatter all around at most times of the day, and in the evening Twenty easily transforms from a laidback cafe into a restaurant with a more sophisticated vibe.

The Food
Head Chef Tony Chivers has aimed for a traditional British menu, full of local produce and fresh tasty food.

Starters are around £5, and popular choices are the chicken liver pate and smoked duck salad. For mains, most classics from chicken pie to sea bass are available and cost around £10 to £15.

The seared tuna is unfortunately overcooked, it’s quite tough, and the shallot butter it’s served with overpowers the tuna’s flavour. The potatoes are fluffy and tasty, but again they are covered in the shallot butter sauce. For dessert at £5 each, bread and butter pudding and banoffe pie always go down well.

The Drink
The wine list is a decent world selection priced from £11.95 to £27, which offers a good range of quality with lots of detail on the menu to aid choices. There is also Magners, Becks and Stella on tap for around £3 a pint to refresh the parched throat.

The Last Word
Twenty is an average restaurant serving typical British food, but it’s a recipe that keeps locals coming back.
