The ViewBournemouth Review
Known as ‘chav central’, The Brass House may be basic, but it’s got a lively atmosphere and very cheap drinks. The VenueThis spacious pub is reminiscent of many Wetherspoons pubs, with lots of large seating areas for groups of friends and moody dark lighting to hide the faux-pas in décor. There are two main areas, one seems like a normal seating area, whilst the other consists of a large bar with many sports shirts and TVs showing sports to entertain none other than sports fans which is either your nightmare or your heaven. Exposed brick walls with antique mirrors on them with wooden panelling everywhere contrast the sports theme in an attempt to add a touch of class to the place. The colour tone is warm, or at least it would be if the lighting wasn’t so dingy, but during the evening this doesn’t seem to faze customers.
The PeopleThe crowd here varies from barely legal youth to retired for a while old folk. During the day, the latter mostly overtakes this place, with many coming for a relaxing drink with friends and looking to socialise before they get too tired in the evening. The buzz is constant, and there’s a friendly atmosphere and a casual environment that easily relaxed you.
In the evening, the place becomes mostly populated with students and the young people of Bournemouth looking to have a few cheap drinks and cheap laughs before they move on somewhere else for clubbing. The place is still lively, and there’s lots of banter flying all over the place which can make the evening fun as long as your not intimidated by big groups of people.
The DrinkThe beers and ciders on tap offer a decent choice, with Bulmers, Strongbow, Guinness, Heineken, Stella, Carling and Fosters from £1.69 a pint. For £2.95 you can also buy Corona, Budweiser and Becks which is a relatively cheap price. The wine list is extremely limited however it serves the purpose of getting the clientele drunk without going over £8.49 a bottle. The cocktails available aren’t exactly complicated but they taste good and please the students no end. Cheeky Vimto and Sex on the Beach for £3.25 each are clear favourites amongst the regulars.
The Last WordA great place for a night out when you’re not too fussed where you go just as long as you don’t spend too much money.
