I was so wrong, Cafe De Paris places nowhere as a nightclub experience. It is obviously just an area which they`ve latched onto as an after thought. The clock exploded at midnight, that was a nice touch. No glass staircase, just a functional uninteresting one. No change at the bar, not in my case at any rate, making juice and water five pounds. I`d also be quite surprised if all of the sardines, another down marker, that eventually joined us, actually paid the full fifty pounds pre-booking admission. I noticed none of those pretty people, certainly no celebrities, and their dancers, of only average beauty, didn`t even move their feet - I wasn`t persuaded that they could actually dance at all. Although, apart from early on, when they were anyway off stage, and perhaps at the end(?), we left long before then, no actual dance music was released. The definition of dance music being sound with a variable beat, not merely constantly stuck - Club managers and d. J`s are the main reason that our youth can at best only jerk around. Cafe de Paris is apparently doing nothing to alter this. The music was in my view both overly cut-up and too loud, acoustically down market, made far worse by volume, and certainly not highly expensive and top quality sound - The speakers were poorly spread. Velvet flock and silks it was not, in fact, I was the only person so dressed, and the only girl adorned silver my partner. We even appeared to be the only couple to actually show dance, not that the d. J. Afforded us too much of that. It`s not out of five, this is a star rating! No balcony is a massive minus, otherwise, I should have afforded them one star. I had been so very wrong before. The clubbing experience can only harm their otherwise top ranking reputation! On the basis of N. Y. E not A single star! - Not yet, but watch this space!
The house vodka there is propably about 10%.
Shame on You .
very young, very lc, pretty rundown. not worth going if you look for something more upscale.
Went there for a 20th birthday on a saturday arrived around 10ish and was on guestlist even though we was too late so had to pay the £20 which was bit expensive then got a drink which again was corona for £4 double vodka lemonade for about £8 which again is expensive. But apart from them downsides the music was spot on for what i like as was a electric mix of new and old commercial tunes and especially if you going with a young crowd is a great night.
Definitely will be going again the music and the venue made the night was just amazin!
If I could I would leave a rating for this pretentious, shabby, horrid place without any stars - but the system doesn't allow it unfortunately. We were on the guestlist - what a scam - so we queued for about 20 minutes (i thought guestlist means your queue is shorter than the ones who are not on the list, but clearly, my mistake). Then we were greeted by a horrid little gay man, who thought he is God or something. He was extremely rude in talking to us, though he had no reason, as we were very polite. Then came in a tall attitude-problem-chick, also very rude. After this we decided to say byebye to the whole thing and ended up going out somewhere else. I don't know if management reads these reviews, but woooow wake up! Change your staff, otherwise u'll end up closing this dump soon enough. We Certainly hope so.
My husband and I went to this club last weekend with another couple of good friends and having read these reviews beforehand, were concerned at what we may find. We had opted for the three-course dining option (a good choice) and from the minute we arrived, the service was excellent. The bouncers were not rude (they were there to keep the wrong types out!), certainly the waitresses were most attentive and pleasant. The food was good too - a big surprise given that the meal was not the main purpose of the night. We opted for a few bottles of your average cabernet sauvignon and this was not extortionate at around 20 quid a bottle. Yes champagne is pricey but its not compulsory to drink it! The prices compared with what you would see in any city club. The show was totally entertaining, a great variety of comedy and cheeky without being tasteless and suitable for mixed company. There was something for everyone and the little room by the VIP lounge played great middle of the road music, whilst the main room was more current music - the choice is yours. The decor was totally right for a vintage-style event such as burlesque and added to the atmosphere. We all had a fab night and would thoroughly recommend it as a fun night out with a difference. I wonder if the negative review are genuine - all we could see were people having fun and enjoying themselves. One negative - the loos are too small but that's hardly good reason not to go. Don't be put off. TMDP of Bham.x
Having visited Cafe de Paris several times over the last couple of years, I have to say i am surprised by the last couple of reviews on this site.
For me the venue is absolutely stunning. The staff always well presented and polite, even when they are dealing people who have had too much to drink, (probably the ones who have written such negative comments).
The customers are generally of a good standard, not too young, but not too old either, and without the pretentious attitude of some clubs in the west end.
The music is good, although much the same as you will hear in any west end club.
I have only eaten once at the restuarant, (a firends birthday), the cabaret was ok, if a bit cheesy, food well above average and staff who served us, polite and efficent.
If i have to find a negative it would be that sometimes it can get really crowded and there are not many seats. Unless you are in the vip area.
But then if I had wanted to sit down all night, I would have stayed at home watching TV.
My wife & I went to the Wam Bam Club at Cafe de Paris 3 weeks ago, having booked dinner for during the show. The meet & greet bit was great - very friendly and attentive.
The seating is on large circular tables, arranged on the dancefloor, with groups of all sizes. The Maitre'D seemed confused as to where to put us, as there seemed to be more people booked at the table than there were places for. So we were then parked at a booth where we couldn't see the stage. We asked to move, and after quite a bit of angst, were moved so we could see the show. (well it was kind of why we were there).
The show was fantastic and we really enjoyed it - thanks!
The Cafe de Paris, though is not fit to host quality entertainment - poor quality food, brought (no..thrown at us) at random intervals by disinterested staff.
Once the tables were cleared (they do make this clear in their blurb), we had a bit of a boogie and then found we weren't allowed to sit anywhere - the booths were booked by groups and the balcony areas are available only to the "pretty people" and "VIPs." If you're a normal person looking for somewhere to sit for 2 minutes or put your drink down, you'll be pounced upon by a be-suited KGB-wannabe and put in your place.
So, great show, but if you want to be treated like something the bouncer just trod in, come right in! We have complete empathy with some of the experienced described on here.
