Definitely a film to argue over in the pub. I couldn't disagree with you more.

The acting is, for the most part, appalling. (Later I assumed they were porn stars, not actors.)

The dialogue is possibly the clunkiest ever! And not just because it's in English, not French. ("Did you read that Book of the Dead?".. "Yeah, it was interesting. It said that when you die, this happens, then that happens..." Ouch.)

The point-of-view camerawork was equally clunky at times, more akin to a computer game than a realistic evocation. He only ever looks at the relevant. (Look at light switch... hand slowly comes in...etc). This is strange as blinks were included, so it's not exactly 'one long take'! Even when dead and soaring, there is still an annoying lack of spontaneity and freedom. Everything witnessed is awkwardly relevant and signposted. All flashbacks are pertinent.

And don't get me started on the 'in and out' of the light-bulb thing, the strobing, the dodgy trippy computer animation circa 1990... although I believe a lot of this has now been cut since Cannes.

Most overblown, childishly shocking, unbelievable, excruciating, mind blowing indulgence ever. And so, yes, perversely unmissable!

Film of the Week

Argo (15)

Impeccably directed, superbly written and brilliantly acted, this is a terrifically entertaining thriller that gets everything right and confirms Ben Affleck as a major directing talent.
