This classy lounge bar has a modern boudoir decor, an in-depth cocktail menu and a cool crowd that makes it stand out from bars on Poole Hill.

The Venue
The long, sleek sign outside, combined with large windows for passers-by to peer in, gives you a glimpse of the modern vibe of Jimmy's Bar.

It's small but the decor is well-done so you don't realise there's a lack of seating space, until you can't find anywhere to sit.

A stainless-steel bar covered with studded leather and lit by overhead bright blue bulbs is the first thing you see. Behind it there is row upon row of colourful alcohol bottles, tempting the drinker in you.

A few wooden stools are there to perch on but most customers prefer to get comfy on the dark leather stools. These, along with polished wood tables, complete the sophisticated cocktail bar look.

The Amazonian inspired leaf wallpaper adds a touch of wild glamour to the place, and the upbeat music adds a vibrant edge. Jimmy’s has just the right balance of showy and understated chic to make the decor work well.

The People
Sex and the City has a lot to answer for - the fever for all things cocktail has spread around Bournemouth like wildfire. Jimmy's has plenty of lasses dressed up to the nines sipping an intoxicating concotion while chatting with their friends.

But it's not all girlie, as the young professional types appreciate an after-work/late-night drink here too, making the atmosphere dependably lively and fun as the evening draws on.

Students looking to glam things up a bit, or middle-aged people wanting to feel cool again, also wander in here from time to time, and the cool vibe of the place rubs off on everyone who enters, making it way too easy to think it's OK to have yet another cocktail.

And the occasional live music set with everything from a DJ to jazz adds another dimension to the evening.

The Food
Jimmy's doesn't serve your average pub nosh, but nor is it gastropub grub either. Starters include avocado salad for £5.95, pan-seared scallops with crispy bacon on salad for £8.95 and there's a range of meat and grill options for mains such as pork, leek and apple sausages with creamy mash for £8.95.

There are also pizzas for around £8 and a range of seafood dishes such as saffron sea bass for £13.95.

The Drink
Cocktails are the obvious choice here, with a long list that includes classics and unique cocktails that will suit almost every taste.

The classic cocktails are priced at £6.90, using premium spirits to make the taste of the cocktail that much nicer. For something really sociable, try the one giant glass cocktail for £25 (which you share, obviously).

For cocktail purists, the list of martinis is very good, with a refreshing Miss Martini for a lovely treat (raspberries, Absolut raspberry vodka, Archers schnapps, Chambord and cream). There are also creamy after-dinner cocktails that are a good substitute for dessert, and Champagne cocktails for a bit of fizz at £9.

The wine selection gives a good global range but most are New World wines, with bottles from £14.50 to £28.90, and a house bottle for £12.50.

The Last Word
To add a touch of easy-going glamour to your evening, Jimmy’s is a great lounge bar.
