"Established in 1989 by Fred and his dad Peter, the aim was to create a fish and chip shop which would appeal to everyone… 26 years later we’re as passionate about bringing you the very finest fish and chips as we’ve ever been.
A family business in the truest sense of the word, and run by a group of people who have a genuine love for the business, Fred’s has long been a neighbourhood favourite among locals and visitors alike.
We have continually strived to improve, gaining recognition as Britain’s best fish and chip shop along the way, without ever getting carried away… For us, there always has been and always will be room for improvement.
Every day, our chefs hand prepare on site the finest quality fish (all sustainably sourced), proper fat chips, our own recipe batter and probably the best mushy peas you’re ever likely to taste.
What inspires us is the belief that fish and chips can not only taste good, but do you good, and that everyone should be able to enjoy them – guilt free. Our fish and chips are very good for you – quality ingredients, full of flavour, and surprisingly low in fats. Honest, natural, healthy and nutritious.
Today, our aims remain much the same as they were back in ‘89 – simply to keep serving proper fish and chips, the way they should be… served with a smile, in comfortable surroundings, with a little sprinkling of fun.
