We popped in for a quick drink and ended up having a late Sunday lunch. Spot on and we've booked to take family on a future date.
Wine good, beer good, service with a smile and extremely good value for money.
We had one ham, egg & chips which my husband said was perfect with the fruit chutney an added bonus and one meat free roast. I have to say that all veg was cooked to perfection and both dishes were very generous in helping.
Not sure an earlier reviewer was dining at the same pub because our experience was all one would expect (plus a bit more) from this style of establishment.

Nice premises, friendly staff, good range of drinks & a good varied menu. The service was good however the food whilst nice, didn't warrant the final bill. I could have eaten the same meal in a Harvester for £15-20 less. Drop your prices Amberwood or raise your game a little.

There seems to be very varing reviews. That has been my experience. Last year we ate there several times and we were so impressed that we recomended it to our son and friends. The pub was pretty dingy then but went through an upgrade and the decor has been much improved. BUT sorry to say we ate there three weeks ago and we were NOT impressed. We ordered steak and chips what turned up were two small scraps of steak which looked like off cuts. They were so small that I couldn't see them at first as they had been hidden beneath two onion rings that will give you the idea of size)strategically placed to hide the fact that we were being served scraps. Im sorry you treated us like this we have done nothing to deserve it. The waitress sidled up to us during the 'meal' and said "everything alright" but in such a manner that if you said "no" she couldn't have cared less. We were travelling and had looked forward to stopping for a nice meal and a rest to break the journey. We will drive on in future and that is what I think they wanted. We certainly were not welcome.
Sorry but true

Chris

I have visited the Amberwood pub a few times now and every time the experience has been lovely! The food is delicious, reasonably priced, of excellent quality and I enjoy eating at places where I know the food is home-cooked and traditional. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere in general was delightful! I will definitely recommend this place to others in future and I truly hope to visit again soon for another excellent evening!

There is nothing like an excellent meal in a good restaurant, and eating at Amberwood is indeed nothing like eating an excellent meal in a good restaurant...
A poor menu of microwave meals for one which would be perfectly at home in a supermarket value range was perfectly matched with appalling customer service, rudeness, and being made to feel that in exchange for paying over the odds for a budget meal, you are actually in the way.
Possibly the worst cheesecake I have ever attempted, was garnished nicely with value squirty cream and ice cream van raspberry sauce.
Disappointingly, as a treat for my Dad on fathers day before I jet off to work in a foreign country again, I paid one hundred and twenty five pounds, for myself and five family members to be culinarily punished and spoken to like the refuse that the meals should have been.
I would in future, choose as a preference, eating from the rubbish bins behind a backstreet Indian takeaway in an area that suffers alot of missing stray animals than ever visit the Amberwood ever again.
Well done Amberwood, you are truly disgraceful.
I am amazed you had the cheek to obviously write the rest of the reviews about yourself.

It's good that the eating tables are not right up against the bar but also aren't in a completely seperate room which meant that we could enjoy the band that was playing whilst we were eating. I had liver - which could have been disasterous if they'd pre-cooked and warmed it up (like some places do with food) but it arrived freshly cooked and tender and was really nice! Good food, good music, and beer! An ideal night!

We often go to the Amberwood for a meal (food is always excellent value for money, and quality second to none) or just a drink (the atmosphere is always so friendly & welcoming). It has got to be the best pub around. For the second year running we had Xmas Day dinner there with all the family... and the second year running it was perfect !

We also spent new years eve evening there - and it was like a party at a friends house ! It was a really brilliant evening. You'd have to go a long way to find fault on anything at the Amberwood - the pub, the staff, the food & drinks, the atmosphere, its all excellent !!!
